Home Building Legislation
Home building legislation usually falls under two main headings. That required by the
Councils Planning Department and that of the Building Regulations either under the control of the Council or as an
approved private inspector.
Planning legislation for home building looks at the impact of the proposal upon neighbours, the street scene,
local site zonings etc. all of which is contained within the Council Planning Policy documents which can be down
loaded from each respective councils web site.
Certain elements of the Planning legislation for home building or house extension proposals can be subjective
elements based upon interpretations much of which can be challenged at appeal should the Planners refuse your
scheme.
The Building Regulations side of the home building legislation is based upon health and safety and current
good building practice to ensure that a minimum standard of construction is achieved.
Both of these two main home building legislation elements can be handled for you by an experienced home
extension designer or architect who will act as your agent in preparing all drawings and specifications complete
with acting as your agent through the various application processes.
