The Measured
Survey.
Not all Building Designers are able to complete their own measured surveys. Be wary
of any designer requesting to out-source this aspect of their service unless the site is unusually large or
complicated.
THE MEASURED SURVEY
In order for CHP to complete a scheme design, a measured survey will need to be
completed of the existing house. This survey is mainly to establish dimensions so that scaled drawings
can be completed. It is not a structural survey to locate existing building faults. Certain assumptions will
also have to be made regarding foundations, joist spans, wall constructions etc. as some important elements
cannot be viewed without a destructive survey. The survey is usually completed in about 2hrs and access needs
to be provided to CHP throughout the entire house and grounds.
