The Department for Communities and Local Government (CLG) has launched the theme
‘Housing and Construction’ as part of its Red Tape Challenge.
The Red Tape Challenge is an open and transparent cross-Whitehall deregulatory programme
managed by the Cabinet Office. It offers the chance for industry and sector experts as well as members of
the public, to submit ideas for reducing unnecessary regulation, via the Red Tape Challenge website
(www.redtapechallenge.cabinetoffice.gov.uk/home/index/).
The theme will include housing and construction related regulations and
consider whether excessive or complicated legislation is a barrier to reinvigorating housing and
construction in this country. Ministers in DCLG are particularly keen to lead by example and
remove any unnecessary bureaucracy whilst keeping safeguards in place.
Members can submit ideas directly to CLG by 16 February 2012 but if you also send your
submissions to the industry's umbrella body the Construction Industry Council (CIC) by 9
February 2012 these submissions can be compiled as a joint response from the industry.
Information on the Red tape Challenge is available on the CIC website by
