Home Building Guide
The internet is a wash with home buildings guides. Most suggest that your first port of call is to
usually engage your own home designer or architect. However there is a prior step to home building that many
guides fail to include and that is to spend some quality time yourself doing your own research
(DYOR).
This is not just related to selecting the correct building professional to help your home building ideas and
requirements come to fruition from plan to the built form on site. Having an idea of what you want is often
just the start of the process so why not write down or even sketch out yourself some of your own thoughts and
ideas.
Make a check list check list or schedule. Add in swatches of magazine articles or photographs relating to
building styles, internal design, building materials etc. that take your fancy. These are great starting
points for later discussions you will be having when you begin to interview and select your final home
building designer or architect.
Any good home building guide will also recommend selecting the right type of home building designer or architect
that suites your needs. A well established and expensive professional or design company my not suit your own
personality for perhaps a more attentive and personal service that is so often found in smaller one man bands.
Conversely, many smaller home building designers are unable to offer the full range of services that you
may require like contract administration or tender selection. Its horses for courses so take your time but
whoever your choose do make sure that are motivated, professionally qualified with relevant experience and that
they will be pro-active within the design through to completion.
NOTE - These are general discussion articles
only.
